Elton Women's Institute, formed in 1951, is the oldest organisation in the village. Members meet at 7.30pm in Elton Village Hall on the second Thursday of every month, with the exception of August. Any women aged 16 and upwards living in either Elton, Gratton or within easy travelling distance is eligible to join.

At present there are 23 members. There is an annual subscription which is payable in January. The varied programme includes speakers, occasional demonstrations, a summer walk in August and a Christmas party in December.

Elton is a member of the D.F.W.I. (Derbyshire Federation of Women's Institutes) and is entitled to send a delegate to their twice yearly meeting and attend their courses and outings. Every four years a delegate attends the Annual General Meeting of the N.F.W.I. (National Federation of Women's Institute) in London. The Federation supports overseas projects through A.C.W.W. (Association of Country Women of the World).

The N.F.W.I. publishes its own well presented magazine eight times a year with W.I. news, articles, craft ideas, gardening tips and much more.

New members are always welcome.

For more information about Elton's WI or if you would like to join, contact Heather Eyre on 01629 650 455 or just come along to Elton Village Hall on a meeting night.
